This one-year course is
designed to prepare the students working in the business field, which
requires effective communicative skills in English. By introducing
core business concepts, the course aims to teach students business
vocabulary and to foster their autonomous learning in professional
communication skills. Being exposed to a variety of challenging and
interesting topics, students will practice spoken English through a
series of functional settings to participate in discussion, presentation,
role-plays, mini case studies, and team projects. The purpose of all
classroom activities is to provide students the target language in
meaningful situations and to improve their competence in business skills.
Texts and topics chosen from the business world are broad rather than
specialized, including subjects such as Social & Cultural Awareness,
Organization, Production, Marketing and Advertising, Trade and Performance.
The communication skills include Meetings, Decision making,
Negotiations, and Presentation, etc. Serving as a language proficiency
preparation for Business field, the course will explore the TOEIC (Test of English for International Communication), too. A guided discovery
approach to business grammar and usage will lead students to a clearer
understanding of the forms and underlying concepts of English.

We hope to create an active, energetic class—this is possible only if you are present. Thus, again, I would like to remind you that the regular attendance, class participation, team performance, and learning attitude are very important for your grade and progress in study. If you are absent, you are responsible for the material that we cover in the class. If you miss a day when you are scheduled to present, you will receive an F on that assignment; there is no make-up assignments except for University approved excused absences. If you miss the course more than THREE times (excused or unexcused) , you might not get the credits.
For the classroom etiquette, please listen to and show your respect for the views of your classmates. Please turn off all the electronic machines during the class time; any noises from those will interrupt the class procedure and this is impolite to your class!
